Despite our best efforts there were a few typos and one very big omission in our Faith/Spirituality content.
Among the congregations and groups that responded to our request for information was the Reformed Congregation of the Goddess - International. This is a group that's listed here on the Our Lives website under the "Groups" tab. Somehow, somewhere in the process of getting the words on paper, RCG-I was OMITTED from the printed list of groups in the May/June issue.
I am personally MORTIFIED that this omission happened! I apologize to RCG-I and its members.
RCG-I has a really special part in Madison's LGBT history. It's a congregation that was created and formed here in Madison! And it's a wonderful example of women creating sacred groups and/or taking leadership roles in congregations. I think this should be a great source of pride for all of us in the LGBT community here!
Let me share with you here what one of the founders, Jade River, shared with me.
We are an open and affirming Congregation.
RCG-I is a multi-traditional women's religion embracing a variety of spiritual paths, the common elements being a belief in female divinity and a commitment to positive spiritual practice.
The Women's Spirituality Movement was just beginning when Jade River moved to Madison. Building on a statement by Gandhi, "If you want to build a movement, you need a press," Jade wanted to create a venue for women to celebrate the Goddess.
Soon, Jade met Lynnie Levy and in 1983 they published Of A Like Mind. It was then the only publication specifically focused on women's spirituality. It became clear spiritual women believed that Goddess religion should be recognized, so in 1983 the Re-formed Congregation of the Goddess - International was incorporated and received tax-exempt status. It became the first legally recognized religion serving the women's spiritual community.
RCG-I is the oldest officially recognized women's religion in the United States, as well as the largest with affiliated circles and solitary members from around the world. It has trained and ordained priestesses and currently offers training, conferences, and other activities for spiritual women.

Rabbi Laurie Zimmerman also contacted me to let me know of some errors in her congregation's listing.
The correct spelling of the congregation is:
Congregation Shaarei Shamayim
The phone number listed is also incorrect.
The correct phone number is:
608-257-2944
My apologies to Rabbi Zimmerman, as well!
We featured Rabbi Zimmerman in our article, as an example of LGBT leadership in the various congregations.
